How to Make a Minecraft Server to Play with Friends

To play Minecraft with friends in a world that keeps running when you are offline, you need a server. This guide uses Paper, a widely used Minecraft Java server that supports Bukkit and Spigot plugins.

It is for Minecraft Java (PC). Bedrock players (consoles and phones) cannot join directly.

1. Order the server

In the game server cart pick Minecraft Paper 2 GB ($7 a month) and pay. The server is created automatically once payment clears. It runs on our Argentina node, so it works best for players in South America.

2. Open the panel

In your Atria account, open the service and click Open game panel. The same password opens the panel and SFTP. From the panel you start the server, watch the console and edit the settings.

3. Connect

In Minecraft go to Multiplayer → Add Server and paste the address and port shown in the panel.

4. Friends only

From the panel console:

  • whitelist on turns on the whitelist.
  • whitelist add PlayerName adds each friend.
  • op YourName gives you operator permissions.

5. Plugins

Download the plugin (a .jar file) from its official page, upload it to the plugins folder over SFTP or with the panel file manager, and restart the server.

For a group of friends with a few plugins, 2 GB is usually enough; heavy modpacks need more memory.
